Shayla Lightfoot-Brown is a proud wife, mother of five, and a 23-year veteran educator who is a native of Gadsden County, Florida. She earned her undergraduate degree in Education from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) and later received her Master’s degree in Education from University of South Florida. She is currently pursuing her Educational Leadership Specialist (Ed.S.) degree at Florida State University.
Shayla is the founder of the Pink Diamond Girls Mentoring Program, which focuses on cultivating confidence, leadership, and enrichment opportunities for young ladies ages 9–12. She has also served her community through leadership roles including the Board of Directors for Creative Mind Solutions, the District Advisory Committee, School Advisory Council (SAC), and as Vice President of the PTO at ATMSA.
Throughout her career, Shayla has received numerous honors and recognitions. She is a recipient of the Martin Luther King Jr. Award, was named a Top Five Finalist for Gadsden County District Teacher of the Year, and in 2020 represented her school as the Glenn-Howell Distinguished Educator of the Year.
Passionate about expanding opportunities for students, Shayla has secured multiple educational grants and launched enrichment programs including S.T.E.M. Club and Black Girls Rock S.T.E.M., designed to expose students to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in meaningful ways.
She is a proud member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., where she actively participates in community service initiatives aimed at uplifting and empowering communities. She currently serves as the Adult with Disabilities (AWD) Coordinator at Gadsden Technical College and supports students through her involvement with Special Olympics in the district.
Shayla firmly believes that education is the vehicle that empowers students to become productive citizens. She remains committed to ensuring that every child receives a high-quality education and the opportunity to reach their fullest potential.
